The Community Women's Orchestra is delighted to announce a


Concerto Competition for Young Women Musicians


Sunday, August 28th from 3:00pm-6:30pm

Lake Merritt United Methodist Church

1330 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland


Grand Prize

One winner will be selected to perform as soloist with the orchestra at its annual Family Concert on Sunday, 

November 6, 2016 and will be awarded $100.


Eligibility

Open to high school students who identify as female and reside in either Alameda County or Contra Costa

County. Both singers and instrumentalists are encouraged to apply. The student must be available for the 

performance on Sunday, November 6 as well as a dress rehearsal on Thursday, November 3 (evening)

and at least one other Thursday evening rehearsal of their choice in September or October.

Memorization is strongly encouraged.


Repertoire

Contestants must choose a work for soloist and orchestra not to exceed 10 minutes 

and appropriate for a community-level orchestra. All repertoire is subject to approval by the Music Director.

Accompanists

Participants are encouraged to bring their own accompanist; one is not provided. There will be two 

pianos available.


Registration and Fee

Register and pay online by August 10, 2016. The fee is $15. There are 2 steps to complete:

Registrants who have completed the form and submitted payment will be assigned a competition

time shortly after August 10.
